Our Goal
Our mission is to empower, educate and inspire families to take on life’s challenges while promoting an optimistic outlook and a brighter future. Our goal is to increase accessibility to high quality education in order to provide support for families across all demographics, promote acceptance, and cultivate a successful environment for future generations.
South Shore Therapies’ mission has always been to provide the highest quality speech and occupational therapy intervention to our families across the South Shore of Massachusetts. Through in-person services, we are able to work with our clients and their families to address issues that impact activities of daily life. Over the years, we’ve provided additional instruction through handouts, resource referrals, and in-services in the hope to provide further education and support.
In March of 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, the world of teletherapy was new and overwhelming. This platform allowed us the ability to connect with our families virtually, an invaluable tool at an unprecedented time. Through this new medium came an idea… if we harness the powers of the internet, we can reach even MORE families and support their children’s growth and development.
The CEO
Howard Szklut, the CEO of South Shore Therapies had an even bigger vision – was there a way to unite people near and far amidst the uncertainty and change going on around the world? He formed a team with some of the South Shore Therapies talented staff to embark on a mission to break down barriers and be a part of a new and better future by creating free blogs, videos, and educational handouts for all to access.
Kip the Kangaroo
We knew we needed a way to reach through the screen and connect when we were so far away from one another. We knew we wanted to reach all walks of society and leave no one behind. That drive for connection and unity led us to Kip! Kip the Kangaroo and Kip’s Mama now help us learn about, understand, and hop over life’s challenges.
What started as feel-good videos and educational articles created by our therapists grew into the South Shore Therapies Resource Center. Through handouts, articles, videos, webinars, Kip and more, our goal is to provide high-quality education beyond the four walls of our clinics.
With our resource center, we seek to break down the barrier of demographics and regions. We invite those who want to learn more about raising tiny humans to explore the collective knowledge of our highly-trained health care professionals.
Our Contributors
Our materials, videos, articles, and webinars are created and produced by our certified therapists. Our therapists utilize principles of evidence-based practice, neuroscience, neurodiversity, cultural competency, development, and play to inform their content. We create materials that provide insight into childhood development across the spectrum in order to empower our caregivers to educate themselves and tailor learning to the unique needs of their little ones.
We want to help you rethink parenting. Sometimes a shift in the lens is all it takes to move from frustration to joy. Raising children, whether they be neurotypical, neurodiverse, disabled or delayed, is a journey. In addition to providing evidence-based, up-to-date information, our contributors will also share with you their unique perspective on development, helping our community understand that learning is not, has never been, and will never be a one size fits all model.
SST and YOU
Teamwork makes the dream work. It takes a village. All for one and one for all. However you’d like to put it, we cannot do it all without one another! Speech, occupational, and socio-emotional development requires collaboration which is why you are the most integral part of the team. We want to hear from you.
What’s tricky for you at home? Are there strategies that you’ve found that work well for your family? What topics or conversations are difficult for you to broach with your children? What do you want to know about yourself, your child, and how to promote their success?
Our doors are open, come on in! Send us a message, respond in a comment and we’ll do our very best to guide and support your family with our high-quality and accessible content.
